Happy New Year Young Savers! 2009 marks the beginning of another year for the Champion Credit Union Young Savers Club.
Don’t forget to turn in your 2008 stamped card for your bonus deposit. New cards will be mailed to existing club members in
January. If you are 17 or under and aren’t a member of the CCU Young Savers Club; you can still join but don’t wait. Join the club
in January so you can be eligible for your bonus deposit next December. Watch future issues of Champion Chatter for cool club
activities and giveaways and have a great year CCU Young Savers!
Scholarship Opportunities
Champion Credit Union members who will be attending post-secondary educational programs (not limited to colleges
and universities) can apply for a scholarship that is being awarded by the Northwest Chapter of Credit Unions.
Complete the application and essay below be considered for the scholarship. The Northwest Chapter of Credit
Unions Scholarships are open to anyone, wishing to complete the application and essay.

2009 Scholarship Award Application
The Northwest Chapter of Credit Unions would like you to apply for a scholarship. There will be two scholarships
awarded – one each in amounts of $2,000.00 and $1,500.00. The information and essay answer you provide will help us to
decide the recipients of this spring's awards. If you are chosen to receive the $2,000 scholarship from the Northwest
Chapter, your application will then be submitted to the statewide scholarship program sponsored by the Ohio Credit Union
League, where five scholarships worth $2,500.00 each will be awarded. The scholarships will be awarded for expenses
related to attending post secondary educational programs.

College graduates have more than $20,000 in student loan debt and $2,500 in credit card debt upon graduation,
according to a recent study. Increasing financial education and literacy among today’s youth is a critically important issue.
What obligations do parents, educators, and the business community have to prepare young people for the financial
challenges they will face, including the expenses and pitfalls of becoming financially independent? How could young people
be better prepared and taught financial skills? Please include details about ideal age, teaching materials, methods
(classroom vs. hands-on learning, etc.) and providers (parents, teachers, friends, the media, etc.).
