Data Compromise Hits Home on CCU Visa and Debit Cards
The recent national data compromise as a result of U.S. based merchant processors,
like Heartland Payment Systems has hit CCU visa and debit cards. When the credit
union became aware of the issue, we began taking steps to mitigate losses to members
and the credit union. The credit union views our members account safety as a top
priority. After learning of those card numbers that were compromised, we began taking
steps to replace the cards for members. By working together we can keep your account
information safer. Some ways to help the credit union protect your account are:
- Check your monthly statements to ensure they match your records. If
you have Virtual Branch, check it regularly and report discrepancies
between your statement / account activity and your records to the
credit union at once.
- Update your contact information with the credit union, including cell
phone numbers, work telephone numbers, and email. This helps the
credit union notify you in the event there is a problem with your cards,
or your account.
- Never give out account numbers or personal financial information ,
unless you initiated the call or can validate the authenticity of the
person making the request.
- Always shred personal and financial information before discarding it.
- Every year, review your credit report for discrepancies. You are entitled
to a credit report annually from each of three main credit bureaus:
www.annualcreditreport.com (access all three), Equifax (800-525-6285),
Experian (888-397-3742), and TransUnion (800-680-7289).
If you have questions regarding the data compromise or how to protect
your account information, please contact any of the credit union offices.
