Beware of Phishing
Scam artists have moved to the newest way to scam consumers—
phishing via phone or text messaging.
Scammers send fictitious text or automated voicemail messages to
consumers stating that cards or accounts will be blocked or require
activation or maintenance. The message recipients are asked to input
their personal or financial information (including card numbers,
expiration date, PIN, and CVV codes) in order to take care of the problem.
The messages may appear legitimate, but subsequently result in fraud.
Protect yourself and do not respond to text or automated phone messages
requesting personal or financial account information. If you are a recipient
of one of these fraudulent messages—report the number to your wireless provider
immediately in an attempt to shut it down.
